Polarised Drell-Yan measurement in the COMPASS experiment at CERN

The COMPASS experiment at CERN has been contributing to the description of the nucleon spin structure, namely the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs), through the Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) using a muon beam impinging on polarised targets. These TMD functions are also accessible via the transversely polarised Drell-Yan (DY) process, which will be studied in the next COMPASS data taking, starting this Autumn. This process, in which the proton valence region will be explored, will be studied in collisions of a 190 GeV$/c$ negative pion beam with a transversely polarised ammonia target. The QCD prediction that Sivers TMD change sign when accessed through SIDIS or via DY will be checked by the new COMPASS measurement. Considering one year of data taking, the Sivers azimuthal asymmetry statistical error is expected to be less than 2\%. In addition to the polarised target, other nuclear targets will give the possibility to study unpolarised DY subjects. The experimental setup will be presented, and predictions and expectations will be discussed.Peer Reviewe

Measurement of the Polarised Drell-Yan process at COMPASS

The COMPASS experiment at CERN has been playing an important role in the studies of the spin content of the nucleon. The Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) process gives access to the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) by the measurement of azimuthal asymmetries that have been studied in COMPASS and published in recent years. TMDs are also accessible by the transversely polarised Drell-Yan (DY) process which will be measured in COMPASS. This will be the first ever polarised DY measurement. The valence quarks region will be dominant due to the use of a negative pion beam at 190 GeV/c momentum impinging on a transversely polarised ammonia target. The QCD prediction that Sivers TMD change sign when accessed by SIDIS or by DY will be checked by the COMPASS measurement. The data taking is scheduled to start in the fall of this year. After one year of data collection, a statistical error below 2% in the azimuthal asymmetry related to the u quark Sivers function is expected. The temporal pattern and the overall effect of ozone exposure on pediatric respiratory morbidity

Up to now no study has investigated the temporal pattern of children’s respiratory morbidity due to ozone. In the present study, we investigate the temporal pattern and the general effect of ozone exposure on children and adolescents’ respiratory morbidity using data from a particularly well suited area in southern Europe to assess the health effects of ozone. The effects of ozone are estimated using the recently developed distributed lag non-linear models allowing for a relatively long timescale, while controlling for weather effects, a range of other air pollutants, and long and short term patterns. The public health significance of the estimated effects is higher than has been previously reported in the literature, providing evidence contrary to the conjecture that the ozone-morbidity association is mainly due to short-term harvesting. In fact, our data analysis reveals that the effects of ozone at medium and long timescales (harvesting-resistant) are substantially larger than the effects at shorter timescales (harvesting-prone), a finding that is consistent.non-linear models; distributed lag; delayed effects; public health; respiratory morbidity; children; ozone.

Cooperative Approach for Composite Ontology Mapping

This paper proposes a cooperative approach for composite ontology mapping. We first present an extended classification of automated ontology matching and propose an automatic composite solution for the matching problem based on cooperation. In our proposal, agents apply individual mapping algorithms and cooperate in order to change their individual results. We assume that the approaches are complementary to each other and their combination produces better results than the individual ones. Next, we compare our model with three state of the art matching systems. The results are promising specially for what concerns precision and recall. Finally, we propose an argumentation formalism as an extension of our initial model. We compare our argumentation model with the matching systems, showing improvements on the results

WHEN THE SACHETS GET MIXED-UP – BENZYDAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE INGESTION

Introdução: O cloridrato de benzidamina é um anti-inflamatório não esteróide com propriedades analgésicas, antipiréticas e antimicrobianas. Caso Clínico: Menino de 4 anos e 8 meses recorreu ao serviço de urgência por agitação psicomotora e alucinações vi- suais, com início cerca de 1 hora após a ingestão acidental de uma saqueta de 500 mg de cloridrato de benzidamina. Ao exa- me objetivo apresentava ataxia, tremor, abalos espasmódicos ocasionais, agitação psicomotora e alucinações visuais. Após lavagem gástrica e administração de carvão ativado, administrou-se haloperidol pelo quadro acentuado de agitação com alucinações visuais. Dada a possibilidade de ocorrência de asfixia por espasmo da musculatura respiratória, foi transferido para um hospital terciário. Apresentou evolução favorável, com alta ao 2º dia de internamento. Discussão: Alerta-se para o risco de confusão na via de administração de apresentações para uso tópico e oral. Sendo a principal manifestação o efeito alucinogénico, a ingestão acidental ou intencional de benzidamina deve ser considerada em quadros psicóticos agudos

VIRAL RASH…OR SOMETHING MORE?

O Síndrome de Gianotti-Crosti consiste numa erupção papular ou papulovesicular, monomórfica, simetricamente distribuída pela face, membros e região glútea. Apresentamos o caso clínico de uma criança do sexo masculino, quatro anos de idade, com exantema papulovesicular monomórfico, distribuído nas superfícies extensoras dos quatro membros, e região glútea, precedido por infecção respiratória alta oito dias antes. Do estudo efectuado realça-se a presença de linfócitos activados no hemograma, aumento das transaminases hepáticas e evidência serológica de infecção aguda pelo vírus Epstein Barr. O Síndrome de Gianotti-Crosti é uma entidade clínica estabelecida, muitas vezes subdiagnosticada. O seu diagnóstico é importante, na medida em que exclui patologias com as quais faz diagnóstico diferencial, permitindo tranquilizar os pais, dada a sua, por vezes longa, evolução.Gianotti-Crosti syndrome is a papular or papulovesicular eruption, monomorphous, symmetrically distributed in the face, members and buttocks. We present a clinical case of a four year old boy with a monomorphous papulovesicular exanthema in the extensor aspects of forearm and legs and buttocks, preceded by a upper respiratory tract infection eight days before. The laboratory investigation showed activated lymphocytes, elevated liver enzymes and serologic evidence of acute Epstein-Barr virus infection. Gianotti-Crosti syndrome is an established clinical entity often misdiagnosed. The diagnosis is important as it excludes other pathologies, allowing reassure parents, because of its possible long evolution
